Time
Space and time is merely a human construct to make things easier to understand for the majority of people. It is nice to have a start point and finish point for people so they can see how they are progressing and whether they are actually getting anywhere. Where that anywhere is, is also another question.
We all need to have comfort in our lives and that our lives actually mean something, time is a good and helpful marker for this. We are born, we go through childhood and into out teenage years. We have little or no responsibility at that time and then move on into adulthood where we have responsibility, we see this as a progression in time in our lives, we would see it very odd if we started off having responsibility and then as we got older we had less responsibility, this is just not how we as humans see progression through our lives and time. If we once had responsibility and then had it taken away or lost it we see this as going backwards, again another link to time there. In fact for some it is a great relief that they no longer have that responsibility and worry and pressure that can go with it. They do however think that others may judge them for no longer having the responsibility that they once had. We should see it as a release from these responsibilities and not as going backwards.
Time is what you make of it, it can be linear as we are pressured to live our lives here on earth or you could look at it as not existing at all and that every day is the time to decide where you are in your life. If you are happy with who and what you are today then you are not looking at time as a way of getting to where you want to be. The present day may not be what you want to be at some time in the future and is a stepping block to what you want to be but you need to make sure you are happy with today, each and every day and you will then not worry about what the future might or might not bring or what has happened in the past.
We need to look at our time differently as it is different for each and every one of us here on earth. What seems urgent to one person is not to another and where some people are fixated with accurate timekeeping and being at a certain place at a certain time, others do not see this as so critical, they like to take their time going to a place and if they are not there when everyone else expects them to be there that does not bother them.
We all at times get frustrated because we have to wait to see the doctor or are waiting for a train that is late arriving. If we looked at time differently, then the wait we are having is a good time to sit and think about other things or to catch up on a book we have been meaning to read or even to get back to people who’s text or email we have not responded to because ‘we don’t have the time!’.
There are reasons why the doctor is not ready when we are told they will be ready, the previous patient may have needed more time with the doctor to be able to help them, they may have had to take a call from their family or children, they are not doing it to make you wait for them, they are just working to their time and their life.
Try to think where an exact time is critical in your life or in other people’s lives, something relating to work or a school start time is only there because we or society have made that time as one you have to keep to, what would happen if it didn’t happen then but at some other time, not a lot really as meeting times are usually made around when people are available and if they are not available then it gets changed to when they are.
A doctor’s appointment times are only there so that the doctor may have a chance of seeing a certain amount of people in a day, school hours are set at what the education system thinks is a good amount of time for children to be at school, if they were there for less time the curriculum would be adjusted to fit that time, also if it were longer then the curriculum would be adjusted to fit. Who knows if 9 till 3 is the right amount of time for a child to be at a place of education or could it be just as effective if it were done flexibly without regard to time.
Those are a few areas where we have made time a necessity in our lives and everyone goes along with that norm. Look at you life and see how tied you are to a timetable that others have made for you, then look at how you can make it work for you and not against you. Take back time you have control off and then look at how you can get back the other time that they have set for you. It may be home schooling for your children it may be that you change your job or the way you do your job or other tasks.
Some people tie themselves to doing household chores on set days or set times, what if it is a beautiful sunny day, wouldn’t it be better to take your children out to the park or a walk in the country on these days and then do those jobs when it is wet and raining. This writing is not to make you change what you don’t want to change it is just there to give you ideas on what you could do or what time could be for you.
